Nuestro laboratorio esta facultado para realizar estudios de biogeoquímica en columna de agua y sedimentos (geocronología, flujos de nutrientes, metales pesados, trazadores radioactivos). Hemos desarrollado monitoreo ambiental de las condiciones biogeoquímicas de la interface agua sedimento desde aguas someras hasta aproximadamente 6000 m. de profundidad. Hemos trabajado en aguas de alta mar (Mururoa-Fangataufa, Mar Arábico, noreste del oceáno Atlántico, sur del oceáno Pacífico y oceános Árctico y Antárctico). Estudiamos la interacción entre los continentes y las zonas costeras (Marruecos, Algeria, Túnez, Libia, Egipto, Mexico y Chile) usando isótopos (naturales y antropogénicos), biosensores, micro-electródos (microperfiles de concentración de solutos en sedimentos) y capturador de imágenes del perfil del sedimento (Sediment Profile Imagery, SPI). Hemos desarrollado un programa de geobiología ambiental para estudiar la huella antrópica en ambientes acuáticos, marinos y limnológicos. También hemos trabajado en geoquímica de nódulos de manganeso provenientes de bases oceánicas del Oceáno Pacífico. Además desarrollamos nuestros intrumentos, SPI y Vehículo Submarino Autonómo (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle, AUV).
